WhatsApp vs Signal: Which Is the Better Messaging App?

WhatsApp vs Signal: Which Is the Better Messaging App?

WhatsApp is the most used messaging app in the world, but it’s not always the best choice. Here are five reasons why you should use Signal instead.

1) WhatsApp and Signal both work on Android and iOS — but Signal also works on Windows and Mac. 2) Signal also has a desktop client. You can download it for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and you don’t need to be on a phone or tablet to use it.

3) WhatsApp is much more popular than Signal with over 1 billion active users. However, the iPhone version of Signal is a lot less popular than WhatsApp in the United States with only 27 million users. 4) WhatsApp has a lot more privacy issues than Signal. In particular, WhatsApp has always had the issue of “backdoor” access to messages on the service.

5) Facebook owns WhatsApp and it’s unclear if they plan on continuing to invest in Signal. The Chinese government has a massive spy program called the “Golden Shield Project” that reportedly includes over 3,000 surveillance devices and nodes. One of the significant surveillance tools used by the Golden Shield Project is an Android phone app called “Skyliner”.
